What Makes Us Unique & United?
Reflection
For our last project of the year, we are having a schoolwide conversation that started with two questions: What makes us all unique? and What makes us all united? A group of about 25 of our 4th graders began this conversation. Their thoughts and discussion is currently posted in our library and has now class by class and student by student it has become a school wide conversation. This has been the perfect ending to our year long examination of identity both our own and those around us. By examining our own identities and sharing with each other we have learned so much.

“Stories in Motion: The People Who Inspire Us”
Reflection
This project began with a conversation. Students were asked: Think about what and who inspires you. Is it someone you know? Someone in your life? Maybe it is someone in your family, a teacher or a coach. Or is it someone that you’ve learned and/or read about? Who inspires you to be you, to keep going and never give up? The people who inspire us are part of our identity. As a way to continue to explore and share our unique identities, students wrote about the person who inspires them the most and why. They also used photographs or created illustrations to enhance their writing. To share this work students created paper motion story boxes. They used cardboard boxes, paper scrolls and other supplies to create small manual “movie theater” style paper motion story boxes. These paper motion story boxes were then used to share our “Stories in Motion: The People Who Inspire Us”!

“Our Earth” Poetry
Reflection
This project was done by our Student Council and inspired by Earth Day. They discussed that we are all united on the Earth. There is only one Earth and we must unite and take action to keep it. Together students read poems about the Earth and then wrote their own poetry about the Earth and Earth Day. The students wrote this poetry to share with other students to inspire them to think about, care for and take action to celebrate and preserve Earth.
