Students Rebuild, Little Amal, and a flock of paper pigeons

Welcoming Refugees Project education partner Little Amal carries a message of hope for displaced people everywhere, especially children who have been separated from their families.

Everywhere Little Amal goes, she is greeted with ‘Events of Welcome’: community-created events that are authentic and meaningful to the locals she meets. This could be a parade through a city center, playground games with students at schools, a visit to a place of worship, an outdoor theatre or dance performance, a musical concert, a whole-city art installation, surprise encounters with children and families or ceremonies of welcome led by city mayors or other senior civic officials.

Students Rebuild welcomed Amal to the Brooklyn Bridge during her recent trip to New York City and we captured moments from the day. Take a closer look at the event below!
