Thank you to everyone who has joined Students Rebuild, Save the Children and Global Nomads Group in a global effort to help children become successful life-long readers and learners! As you know, to participate in the Literacy Challenge, you simply make and mail in bookmarks. For each bookmark you send in, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1—up to $300,000—to Save the Children’s Literacy Boost program in Latin America (Peru), Africa (Mali) and Asia (Nepal). The more bookmarks you send, the more children you’ll help!

Have you registered a team but haven't made bookmarks? Or have you been making bookmarks but haven't mailed them in yet? Get ready to participate in our special Literacy Challenge Bookmark-athon January 12 – Valentine’s Day! During that period is the Martin Luther King Day of Service (January 15, 2015) and Valentine’s Day—this is the perfect time to show your love of learning and to help your peers around the world improve their literacy. Check out these Bookmark-athon Literacy Challenge activities:

Double Your Donation: We’ll match all bookmarks we receive postmarked between January 12 and February 14 with $2!

Win Fun Prizes: We’ll send a goodie box prize package to the teams that come in first and second with the most bookmarks postmarked between January 12 and February 14! We’ll also feature your team in our social media and on our blog.

Be in Our Video: Take photos and video of your bookmarks and your team hard at work! Tell us what inspired you to participate. We’ll include you in our “Bookmarks Around the World” crowd-sourced video coming out this spring. Either post your submissions to our social media or email them to us. Watch our other fun and educational literacy videos anytime.

Write a Book: Save the Children is seeking non-fiction books and factsheets to add to their international book banks. Write and illustrate a picture book individually, or a class or even a whole school can collaborate—it’s up to you. If your work is selected, it will be translated, downloaded and used around the world! In addition to bragging rights, we’ll also report about you in a blog post, give you a shout out on social media—and we’ll read your work  during one of our two live webcasts from across the world! Get the details here.

Use #SR Literacy: Share your participation in the Challenge and the Bookmark-athon on social media.

See Special Guests: A few familiar and notable people may take the Challenge with us—stay tuned on social media to see who’s making bookmarks with you...

Remember, with every bookmark you make, you're helping your peers around the world become better learners, which can lead to improved self-esteem, health, equality, employment prospects and so much more. It's time to get busy making bookmarks! Questions about the Bookmark-athon? Contact us anytime.

The Students Rebuild Literacy Challenge, in partnership with Save the Children and Global Nomads Group, will help thousands of children in disadvantaged communities become successful life-long readers and learners.
