The Youth Uplift Challenge is supporting Save the Children's youth opportunity programs in Nicaragua and Indonesia. We're excited to bring you to these countries to meet a few inspiring students finding success! In this blog post, Abby of Global Nomads Group shares some behind the scenes insight into Nicaraguan student Maybelin's daily life.

It is really amazing to see young girls who are equal parts dreamer and doer. Maybelin is one of those people. In meeting her family, it is no surprise that she is such a determined and grounded young woman.

When we were filming Maybelin, she was getting ready for her high school graduation! She spoke to us at length about how important school has been to her, and how it has allowed her to make her dreams a reality. Inspired by her own teachers, Maybelin is passionate about becoming a teacher. This has required dedication to her school work up until this point and means that she will need to continue her studies at college.

Just like so many young people with the opportunity of furthering their education, this means moving away from home, becoming financially independent, and stepping outside of your comfort zone. To ensure she is able to continue to her studies and support her family, Maybelin has started her own business selling chicken eggs. In addition to supporting Maybelin’s already entrepreneurial spirit Save has also helped to provide the resources that allow Maybelin to run a successful business. Along side her partner she is able to care for her chickens, collect the eggs, and manage the selling of those eggs.

Thanks to the Students Rebuild’s Youth Uplift Challenge youth and communities have the opportunity to make additional incomes and be empowered by the personal skills they are gaining.

For every hand you make and send in from now until May 8, 2017, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1.90—up to $500,000—to Save the Children’s programs empowering youth in Nicaragua and Indonesia to rise into a life they dream for themselves. Take the Youth Uplift Challenge now!
